Samsun Yurt Savunma Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. (SYS) has been operating in the defence sector since 1998. Its located in Samsun and doing all its activities in 45.000 m2 facility in three plants with its 570 employees. According to Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) data, it ranks among the top 20 defence company firms in Turkey, and in 2017 was selected as Turkey’s third most successful defence company after Turkish Aerospace Industries and TEI. The firm has manufacturing facilities both in Turkey and the United States, and as the manufacturer of CANİK-branded firearm products, is the eighth largest pistol manufacturer in the world. Canik won the “Handgun of the Year” award in the United States in both 2017, 2019 and 2020. Its products are exported to the European Union countries through Germany, and the company is currently among the top companies selling to the civilian market in many European Union countries, including France and Italy. CANİK is Designated as the national pistol of Turkey by the SSB. The Canik TP series of pistols have also been selected as the official pistols of many of our allies’ armed forces, such as Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Malaysia, the Philippines, Poland, South Africa, Thailand and Ukraine, in addition to the Turkish Armed Forces and Law Enforcement units. Besides the tenders won by the company to date, it has also been short-listed (among the top 4 firms) in international tenders held for such organisations as the Customs and Border Security in the United States. Canik has a sales volume over 320,000 pistols a year and was selected for the development and manufacture of a 12.7 mm Machine Gun by the SSB in January 2018 for which serial production is expected to commence in end of 2020. The main mission stated by SYS and its famous brand CANİK is to serve the armed forces of allied counties through the experience and know-how gained serving the Armed Forces and Law Enforcement units.
