Waste Away Systems was originally founded in 1976 by John Young. Then 36 years later, in April 2012, Young's grandson, Seth Ellington, re-established Waste Away Systems (WAS) with a new approach to high-quality waste services. Originally founded to assist the city of Newark's local trash haulers dealing with a deficiency at a city-owned landfill, Waste Away owned and operated a transfer station, landfill and hauling company. Today, Waste Away Systems (WAS) is a locally owned and operated solid waste and recycling hauling company currently servicing Licking County and the surrounding areas. In 2012, WAS started as a small, one-truck operation with a simple mission – take care of our crew and provide superior service to our customers. Today, our company has grown to be a multi-million dollar organization – recently recognized one of the top 25 fastest-growing independent businesses in Ohio by Inc. Magazine. But beyond the numbers, we’re most proud of the work we do, the people we serve and the communities we touch. Because, for us, it’s not only about doing what’s right for business – it’s about doing what’s right for the community. It’s a passion born from a sense of pride – and part of what, we think, sets us apart from other waste service providers.
