Since 1948 the hr as a founding member of the ARD (Association of Public Broadcasting Corporations in the Federal Republic of Germany) has been the public broadcaster in and for Hesse. There are hr-studios in Kassel, Fulda, Gießen, Wiesbaden and Darmstadt and additional correspondent offices in all regions of Hesse. With around 1,730 employees and around 880 permanent freelancers, hr is an important economic factor, especially for the Rhine-Main region. Six radio programs - hr1, hr2-kultur, hr3, hr4, hr-iNFO and YOU FM - as well as hr-fernsehen offer a diverse program around the clock. With its TV, radio and online offerings, Hessischer Rundfunk also participates in the ARD community programs. These are: Das Erste, Arte, ARD Digital, tagesschau24, ONE, 3sat, Phoenix, KiKA, Deutschlandradio, Deutsche Welle and the young online service FUNK. With around 850 events, co-productions and presentations in all Hessian districts every year, hr is one of the largest cultural organizers in the state. The offer is as diverse as the programs: from the classical concert with the hr symphony orchestra to the hr1 afterwork tour, from the political discussion forum to the comedy competition. The hr, as part of the large family of broadcasters, is financed by ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio through the licence fee. The licence fee enables independent reporting - free of economic and political interests. It also makes a decisive contribution to ensuring the diversity and quality of public service broadcasting today and in the future.
