The Children’s Aid Society of Toronto is one of the largest child welfare organizations in Canada. It is an incorporated not-for-profit agency governed by a volunteer board of directors and funded by the Province of Ontario. Our legal mandate is to protect children from harm. Because of our belief in the importance of early intervention, we also provide assessments, crisis intervention, counseling and services to prevent child abuse and neglect. In addition, we help vulnerable communities to protect and support their children. Many prevention programs are offered in partnership with other community agencies. It is our goal, whenever possible, to keep children with their own families. When children can’t remain at home or live with relatives safely, we offer a variety of substitute care programs, including foster care. We also facilitate the adoption of Crown Wards (permanent wards of the province). The families and children with whom we work come from diverse racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The Children’s Aid Society of Toronto strives to provide services that meet the needs of individual children and their families. We are committed to developing a work environment and a service delivery system, free from all forms of oppression, including racism.
